New CEO for High Times Hopes to Lead the Company Into Retail Business
High Times has appointed another new CEO and hopes to enter the cannabis retail market.
High Times Holding Corp., the parent company of High Times magazine, appointed a new CEO, whose longtime retail expertise will help shepherd the publication into what shareholders hope will be its future: selling legal weed.
Outgoing CEO, Stormy Simon, was replaced by retail giant Peter Horvath in late April, 2020. Horvath is known for building Victorias Secret, American Eagle Outfitters and DSW. He is the former CEO of Ohio-based cannabis retailer Green Growth Brands, which went public in November 2018.

New Zealand to Consider Referendum on Legal Cannabis
New Zealand is revisiting previous efforts to legalize cannabis.
As per a 2017 agreement to revisit legal cannabis later on, a referendum on legalizing cannabis will be held during the 2020 elections in New Zealand this September.
A draft of the bill has been published in the country that asks Do you support the proposed Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill? Those being polled were then given a yes or no answer choice. The bill seeks to reduce harm from the existence of an illicit market for cannabis and proposes to establish home growing, retail cannabis, and a regulatory oversight section to keep the new industry in check.

New Congressional Resolution Condemns Police Brutality And War On Drugs
Twelve House members introduced a resolution on Friday condemning police brutality in light of the recent law enforcement killings of two black individuals that have galvanized mass protests. The measure specifically notes the racial injustices of the war on drugs.
The resolution is partly motivated by the killings of George Floyd in Minnesota, where a police officer suffocated him to death, and Breonna Taylor in Kentucky, where she was fatally shot by police during a botched drug raid.

One marijuana dispensary owner whose business was caught in the chaos stemming from the reaction to rampant police violence over the weekend says he values life and justice over his stolen cannabis merchandise.
Cookies, a well-known dispensary in Los Angeles, was looted during Saturdays massive protests sparked by the killing of George Floyd. But the brands creator and stores part-owner, the famous rapper-turned-cannabis-entrepreneur Berner, says he is more concerned about the underlying injustices being highlighted by protestors than the damage to his storefront.

Scientists And Veterans File Lawsuit Challenging DEAs Marijuana Rescheduling Denials
The Drug Enforcement Administration DEA is facing yet another marijuana-related lawsuitand this time, researchers and veterans are challenging the agencys denial of prior cannabis rescheduling requests.
The Scottsdale Research Institute SRI filed suit last week in the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, asking for a review of DEAs scheduling determinations in 2020, 2016 and 1992. In all cases, the agency denied the petitions, citing statutory obligations to maintain the status of cannabis as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act.
