Washington: Home Cultivation Legislation Receives First Committee Hearing of 2021
Legislation to allow adults in Washington to cultivate marijuana for personal use received its first public hearing last week in the House Committee on Commerce and Gaming.
House Bill 1019 allows adults 21 and older to cultivate up to six marijuana plants for personal use. Under current state law, the cultivation of marijuana is a felony offense punishable by thousands of dollars in fines and possible jail time.
Representative Kloba D, who chairs the Committee, is among the sponsors of HB 1019.

The American Medical Association AMA and its state affiliate have filed a joint amicus brief urging the states highest court to reject a voter-approved ballot measure legalizing and regulating cannabis access to qualified patients. On Election Day, 73 percent of voters decided in favor of Measure 65, which establishes a system of state-licensed dispensaries to engage in the retail dispensing of cannabis and cannabis products to patients who possess a doctors authorization.

Colorados Record-Breaking Marijuana Sales Top $2 Billion In 2020

Marijuana sales proved strong in multiple legal states in 2020.
Colorados total marijuana sales surpassed $2 billion in 2020, the highest amount since legalization, the states Department of Revenue CDOR said Tuesday.
State dispensaries brought in $175,145,246 in November, a 17 percent increase from 2019. In return, the state reaped $32,383,094 in revenue from taxes and fees.
Colorados sales were $1.7 billion in 2019 and $1.5 billion in 2018. The state brought in $387,480,110 in taxes and fees in 2020.
Since the state began collecting tax revenue on marijuana sales in February 2014, Colorado has brought in almost $1.6 billion in taxes.... View more in new window
