Voters in Michigan approved a ballot measure to legalize recreational use of marijuana on Tuesday, and two other states Missouri and Utah endorsed medical marijuana laws. Voters in North Dakota didn`t partake, rejecting a measure to legalize recreational marijuana use.
Now 33 states have legalized marijuana to some degree, and recreational pot use is now legal in 10 states, along with Washington, D.C. But possessing, selling or using marijuana remains illegal under federal law.
Coming into the Nov. 6 vote, both Michigan and North Dakota already had medical marijuana law....

Michigan LegalizesProposal 18-1 has been given approval this evening by Michigan voters, with over 55 percent in support. Put forth by the Committee to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, the initiative legalizes the possession of up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, or up to 10 ounces at a private residence, for those 21 and older. Youve probably heard that marijuana legalization is on the ballot in several states in November. But if you havent heardand you live in one of those statesyou might soon be receiving a call from a volunteer with Students for Sensible Drug Policy SSDP.
The national advocacy group recently launched a legalization phone bank to help get out the vote ahead of the midterm elections.
