``We`ve legalized gasoline, but not gas stations here,`` said Rep. Martin Grohman, I-Biddeford, before the failed override vote.
Maine marijuana sales up in air after lawmakers fail to override govs veto
Patrick Whittle
Maine lawmakers failed Monday to override Republican Gov. Paul LePages veto of a bill to regulate and tax the sale of marijuana, dealing a setback to cannabis advocates who want to see the product in stores. Lawmakers needed a two-thirds majority in both chambers Monday evening to override the veto and fell well short. The result means lawmakers will have to go back to the drawing board in January to craft rules governing the sale of marijuana in Maine. The result came after LePage urged lawmakers to scrap the bill and start over. He has cited concerns including how the T....

Maine Governor Vetoes Retail Legalization ImplementationMaine Governor Vetoes Marijuana Regulation Bill, Advocates Urging Legislative Override

On Friday, Maine Gov. Paul LePage followed through on threats to veto legislation that would have started the process of implementing a regulated marijuana market that Maine voters called for when they approved Question 1 in 2016. The bill, which was supported overwhelmingly in the House and Senate, would have created rules for cultivation, processing, and retail establishments, as well as set tax rates for adult-use marijuana and delay marijuana social consumption lounges until summer 2019. LD 1650 was the product of nearly seven months of transparent deliberations in the....

MJ Freeways issues mount with more outages, delayed seed-to-sale program

Bart Schaneman
MJ Freeway, one of the leading technology companies in the cannabis industry, continues to experience security and performance issues with its inventory tracking software. The companys point-of-sale system failed multiple times over the past few days, forcing marijuana retailers nationwide to log transactions by hand or in some cases even close temporarily. And just last week, Washington state regulators announced that MJ Freeways seed-to-sale tracking program Leaf Data Systems wont be fully functional by Oct. 31. Thats the date when MJ Freeway is scheduled to take ove....

The governor cited federal law as an avenue to discount the will of the voters in his opposition, saying on public radio that he would not sign the bill until he consulted with lawyers.
Maine Governor Wants to Delay Voters Will Until 2019

TheWeedBlog
The governor of Maine proposed a last-minute delay on the states commercial marijuana legislation on Thursday. Gov. Paul LePage, along with Rep. Ken Fredette, are complaining that the current bill, which the bi-partisan marijuana committee recommended in a 15-2 vote, is too multifaceted for debating and voting on in one day. The lawmakers are supposed to vote on the bill Monday. The governor wants to extend the existing extension from next February until 2019. Maine voted to legalize recreational marijuana in the 2016 election, with the measure passing by a slim margin of ....
